Regulatory returns for payment and e-money institutions: the full list

Updated

An authorised payment or e-money institution files about ten recurring returns with the FCA: a safeguarding return every month, the REP017 fraud report twice a year, and a yearly round that includes FSA056 or FIN060, REP018, REP-CRIM, the controllers and close links reports, the complaints return and the safeguarding audit. Most of the yearly ones count from your accounting reference date.

Table of FCA returns for payment and e-money institutions with a 31 March year end: safeguarding return 15 business days after each month end (SUP 16.14A); REP017 by 31 August and end of February (SUP 16.13.8D); FSA056 or FIN060 in mid-May; REP-CRIM in late June (SUP 16.23.7R); controllers and close links reports by 31 July; safeguarding audit 4 months after the audit period (SUP 3A.9.7R); complaints return in mid-August and mid-February from 2027; REP018 once every calendar year; Consumer Duty board report usually by 31 July; FCA periodic fees 30 days after the invoice.
When each return falls for a 31 March year end. Business-day deadlines move a little each year with bank holidays.

Every month

Twice a year

Once a year, from your year end

  • FSA056 for payment institutions or FIN060 for e-money institutions: within 30 business days.
  • REP-CRIM: within 60 business days, unless you only provide account information, payment initiation or money remittance.
  • Controllers report and close links report: within four months.
  • Safeguarding audit: within 4 months of the end of the audit period, which you can align with your year end. First reports under the new rules get 6 months.

Once a year, on other dates

Small institutions

Small payment institutions file FSA057 instead of FSA056, within one month of 31 December. Small institutions submit both REP017 half-years together, within two months of 31 December. Small e-money institutions file FIN060 and also FSA065, the e-money outstanding at 31 December.

Beyond the FCA

You also have Companies House and HMRC deadlines, in the UK limited company checklist, and AML reviews, in the AML compliance checklist. Most of the FCA dates follow your accounting reference date, so give the FCA notice before changing it (SUP 16.13.3C).

Get reminded before each deadline

Regmindr sets up your compliance calendar from a template in about two minutes, and emails your team before each deadline is due.
