NMLS annual renewal deadline

NMLS · Annually · November 1 to December 31

The annual renewal period in NMLS runs from November 1 to December 31 each year. Companies that miss December 31 may be able to renew in the reinstatement period, from January 1 to the end of February, but not every state allows it.

Next due—

Check the date against your own records.

Before November 1

  • Review your company record (Form MU1) and branch records (Form MU3) and bring them up to date
  • Check every license is in a status that can be renewed
  • Resolve outstanding license items the states have set
  • Read each state's renewal checklist for extra requirements and fees

Submitting

Attest that your records are accurate, then submit a renewal request for each license and pay the fees in NMLS, by ACH or card. Some states collect further fees outside NMLS.

State deadlines

Deadlines and requirements vary by state, and some close earlier than December 31. Georgia's renewal period for money services businesses runs from November 1 to December 1, and later renewals can be fined. Check the NMLS Renewal Deadlines, Requirements and Fees Chart for each state you're licensed in.

If you don't renew

A state can terminate a license that isn't renewed, which can end related branch licenses and sponsorships too. Getting them back means applying again.

Also on the calendar

Licensed money transmitters also file the quarterly MSB Call Report in NMLS and renew their FinCEN registration every 2 years.
